Detroit Holiday Productions Worth Seeing (and Planning for) This 2026 Season

The holiday season in Metro Detroit books up fast, and this year there are a few productions at the Fox, Little Caesars Arena, Meadow Brook, and the Detroit Opera House. Whether it’s for a family night out, a date, or a group outing before the year ends, here are some productions that you might want to consider adding to your calendar.

We’ve also included notes on getting to each venue, because December in Detroit means full parking garages and slow exits. A little planning on the front end makes a big difference the day of the event.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical at the Fox Theatre

Dates: December 1–6, 2026
Location: Fox Theatre, 2525 Woodward Ave, Detroit

The touring production of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! runs for nine performances across six days, with matinees on the weekend that work well for families with younger kids. It’s one of the most consistently produced holiday musicals on tour, and the Fox gives it the room it needs. That stage is built for spectacle.

If you’re going with a group, 313 Presents offers Scout Night on December 4 at 7:30 PM. Group discounts are available for parties of 10 or more.

Parking near Woodward fills early on weekend evenings. A lot of people take the QLine up from lower downtown or ride-share to the front door. If you’re coming with a group, a party bus or limo rental drops you at the door and picks you up whenever the show ends. No circling the block.

A Charlie Brown Christmas: Live at the Opera House at Detroit Opera House

Date: Sunday, December 13, 2026, at 3:00 PM
Location: Detroit Opera House, 1526 Broadway Street, Detroit

This one is understated. A Charlie Brown Christmas: Live at the Opera House brings in the Detroit Opera Orchestra to perform Vince Guaraldi’s score live while the cast performs onstage with an animated backdrop drawn from the original TV special. It’s a Sunday afternoon show, so it works well as a family matinee or a pre-dinner outing in the New Center area.

Tickets are sold through Ticketmaster. The box office number is 313.237.7464 if you prefer to call.

Cirque du Soleil: ‘Twas The Night Before at the Fox Theatre

Dates: December 17–27, 2026
Location: Fox Theatre, 2525 Woodward Ave, Detroit

‘Twas The Night Before is Cirque du Soleil’s first holiday production and their 49th original show. It follows a young girl who’s lost the magic of Christmas and finds it again, told through aerial straps, hoop diving, hair suspension, and high-energy dance with a cast of 26. It runs 17 performances across 11 days, so there are options if the initial dates fill up.

It works well as a holiday gift for a group such as a company outing, a family reunion, or a bachelorette party with a holiday theme.

For groups heading to the Fox, we handle event transportation and group shuttles throughout the season. We pick up from anywhere in Metro Detroit and get you to Woodward on time.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra: The Ghosts of Christmas Eve at Little Caesars Arena

Date: Wednesday, December 23, 2026 | Shows at 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM
Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit

TSO is marking 30 years of The Ghosts of Christmas Eve with a reimagined production at Little Caesars Arena. Two shows run the same day: a matinee at 3:00 PM and an evening show at 7:30 PM. The production includes lasers, pyrotechnics, and the full rock orchestra setup TSO is known for. At least $1 from each ticket benefits local charities.

December 23 is one of the busiest travel nights of the year. The Arena district fills up well before curtain, and the garages around LCA are expensive on event nights. If you’re coming from the suburbs (Macomb, Oakland, or Wayne County), booking a driver skips all of it. We run concert transportation to and from Little Caesars Arena all season.

A Christmas Carol at Meadow Brook Theatre

Dates: November 20 – December 24, 2026
Location: Meadow Brook Theatre, Rochester, MI

Meadow Brook’s production of A Christmas Carol is now in its 33rd year with Charles Nolte’s adaptation and Thomas D. Mahard returning as Scrooge. It runs from late November through Christmas Eve, which makes it one of the more flexible options on this list if the downtown dates are already sold out. The show runs roughly two and a half hours with intermission and is recommended for ages five and older.

Meadow Brook Theatre is on the Oakland University campus in Rochester, easy to reach from Shelby Township, Auburn Hills, or Troy without going anywhere near downtown traffic.

Grand Rapids Ballet: The Nutcracker at the Detroit Opera House

Dates: November 28–29, 2026
Location: Detroit Opera House, 1526 Broadway Street, Detroit

The Grand Rapids Ballet brings The Nutcracker to the Detroit Opera House over Thanksgiving weekend, joined by the Detroit Opera Orchestra. It’s a two-day run, so tickets move fast. If you’re hosting out-of-town family for the holiday, it’s a good way to open the season.

Planning Your Night Out: What to Think About Before You Book

Most of these productions are at venues that share the same parking constraints: Woodward corridor garages for the Fox and Opera House, and the Arena district for Little Caesars. A few things worth knowing before you go:

  • Book tickets early. The Grinch and TSO in particular sell through quickly for prime dates.
  • Check for matinee options. Several shows offer afternoon performances that are easier logistically if you have young kids or want to make a full dinner-and-show evening of it.
  • Plan for parking or arrange a pickup. Downtown Detroit on a December weekend evening means competing for garage space. Groups of four or more usually come out ahead on cost and convenience by booking a vehicle.
  • Know your venue ahead of time. Meadow Brook is a different experience than the Fox: more intimate, suburban, and easy to get in and out of. The Opera House on Broadway is close to Greektown if you want dinner before. Little Caesars is attached to the entertainment district, which means everything gets busy at the same time.

Book Transportation for Your Holiday Night Out

No surge pricing. No guessing what the fare will be at midnight. Just a confirmed vehicle, a professional chauffeur, and a straightforward price quote.

Dates fill up in December. If you’re thinking about it, now is the time to book.
